THE HEATHCOTE & STAR

The Heathcote and Star was the first project I worked on for my Client Rob Star, who owns a family of Star Pubs. When I came on board as the Interior Designer I realised the Star brand needed a bit of refresh. The branding of a space is such an integral part of the design process and the interior design must go hand in hand with the brand and concept. The Star brand felt cosmic and astrological and needed a sexy new look to reflect this. As I began the design process we realised the Star pubs were a ‘Constellation’ and so the branding idea of the constellations was born. We began working alongside his graphic designer Lou from Another Kind and she brought the idea to life, with a dark blue palette and new logos for each pub. This helped us to springboard into a vibrant Astro theme for the Heathcote renovation.

This pub had been a cornerstone of the community but had been closed down for a while. Rob wanted to keep the cozy community feel, and wanted to revive keep the well known pool hall and large beer garden. The building is huge! There is a function room, the main pub and a games room. The old pool hall had a wonderful vaulted ceiling which we decided to wallpaper with the constellations, rather like a planetarium. Globe lighting, most of it bespoke made, and two beautiful backbars made by Studio I Am gives the spaces a botanical apothecary feel. The party room has a feminine touch, lots of pink and velvet. And the garden was built by the wonderful Fatleaf . We had lots of established plants to work with and Rob wanted to create inviting spaces for people to explore outdoors. The garden is vast and we created pergolas, and an outdoor bar, as well as covered areas and barbecue. This was an exciting project and still going, we are designing a Boutique Hotel on the two floors above which will hopefully be opening soon!
